In addition to displaying a poster at the regional competition, electronic versions of the poster must be submitted in PDF format. You may submit your poster on a CD by mail or in person at the competition, or you may upload your poster via FTP (see instructions below).
Winners in each category will be added to the GIS Championships online gallery.
Uploading your poster via FTP
To upload your poster to our website, you will need to have special software called an FTP client. Fortunately, there are free and low-cost options. We recommend Filezilla.
Filezilla is a free, open-source FTP client application that you can use to upload your poster, and there are versions for Windows, Mac or Linux. It's quick to download and install, and it's easy to use. You can download Filezilla from this site: http://filezilla-project.org/. Here is a quick guide to using Filezilla: http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Using#Quick_Guide.
You will also need a host, user name and password (Note that the following information is for uploading posters for the Undergraduate Competition only. If you need to upload a PDF for a middle and high school competition, click here and follow the appropriate link.):
Host: ftp.megischamps.org
User Name: collegeposter@megischamps.org
Password: gisrocks
To upload your poster, follow these steps:
1. Save your poster as a PDF with a minimum resolution of 96 dpi and name it <your last name>_<institution>_vp09. So, if your name is Jill Smith and you attend UMaine Presque Isle, you would name your file "Smith_UMPI_vp09.pdf." Do not use spaces in your file name. Open your PDF to make sure it has saved correctly, then close Adobe Reader.
2. Make sure you are connected to the internet, open your FTP client and enter the information above. Here's how it will look in Filezilla:
3. Connect to the host site. In Filezilla, simply click the Quickconnect button.
4. Use the FTP client to copy your PDF file from your computer to the web folder. Depending on the size of the file and your connection speed, this may take a very long time.
5. If you would like us to confirm that we have received your poster, contact Angela Brady: giscenter@maine.edu
Be sure to check out the poster competition rules and guidelines.
